memories

singing last night brought back memories of bambaji.  my husband and I used to play in a ska band together, for about 5 years, but the band fizzled out 2003.  I actually met my husband because of an ad in the Stranger for a lead singer.  bambaji had a small but respectable local following, and played the Central and other venues once or twice a month.  now all our ex-band mates are married and having babies...

then today when we climbed into the crawl space of our house to assess the insulation problem, I saw a box of CD's shrink-wrapped and ready for retail. Img_7607

if you want one, let me know - it'll just cost you shipping.  and believe it or not, our web site is still live.  bambaji

treasure hunting

although the weather has been glorious this weekend, nothing gets in my way of thrift store shopping.  the suburbs are highly underrated for such adventure, and here is a pic of my latest finds... vintage toile printed cotton fabric, martini cloth napkins, a sewing machine accessories tin and a cameo locket.

steampunk locket necklace

I almost had trouble being free from any project deadlines this weekend.  watched the movie Stardust which had steampunk elements but wasn't really that great...  recorded a few jazz tunes with my husband's group to make a demo... finished sewing a couple of dresses that were begun 6 weeks ago.. and made a necklace for no particular reason.  I'm still experiencing residual influence from the whole steampunk thing, judging by the locket necklace I made.

southland in the springtime

the reason for the long silence from posting is a much needed 2 week vacation through Nevada and Arizona.  lots of driving and sights to be seen.  it was fantastic...

modernized jewels

I bought this pair of antique earrings last weekend despite the fact that they were clip-ons.  when I first discovered antique jewelry I used to force myself to wear clip-ons because they were so pretty, and I would always get a headache.  no more headaches!  just remove the clip, add a jump ring and add a kidney hoop from the bead supply store and voila, pierced earrings.

one-sie two-sie

our good friends the smiths are due to give birth to their first child on my birthday!  the bug shower was put on by the hostess-with-the-mostess, marquez, who came up with the crafty idea that we all should decorate a onesie for the little bug.

Tspoon1sie

I don't think glam.spoon will ever transition into the kid apparel market, but decorating a onesie with fabric markers definitely satisfied my crafty side.

repurposed jewels

I spent so much time this weekend wrestling carpet into submission that I needed an afternoon of pure creativity.  you wouldn't think it could take a whole afternoon to make two pairs of earrings, but I also spent a good amount of time just disassembling pieces I've bought recently.  i just love taking things apart and putting them back together my way.  and I loooooove my box of parts.

a weekender

i love road trips.  it still amazes me that i can wake up in one state, drive for hours and end up in another.  i drove to Tigard, Oregon this weekend to lounge around the hotel suite while my husband was busy working.  i spent a liesurely day shopping for inspiration and found this romantic window display in the unlikeliest of shops: forever 21.

it reminded me of the image i have in my head of a skirt entirely covered in gathered satin ribbons in all different colors of silks.

on the other end of the spectrum, i finally visited the gallery at the Oregon College of Art & Craft.  it's about 20 square feet with less than 15 pieces, but it was so worth it.  they wouldn't let me take photographs but you can view works by my favorite artist here: Lindsay K. Gates. Img_5125 strangely, the piece featured on the promotional postcard was the least interesting in person.  i also photographed this near the parking lot. i have no idea what it is - mushrooms?  erasers?
