Had an awesome photo shoot last night with Jami Davis and Carlynne Morrison...  cannot wait to share photos! Here's a snap from my trusy phone.

Locavore ... the big reveal

Locavore happened last Saturday. It was such an inspiring and creative event, I can't believe I've been able to restrain myself from posting these images until now. Carlynne is such a graceful and lovely model, I'm absolutely in love with all the photos I took of her... but I truly attempted to narrow it down, I promise.

In the photo with Carlynne is Rachel Sumner, our photographer for the day. I'll probably post her images once I get my hands on them.

 

Locavore event at Kirkland Arts Center

Another sneak peek of my garment for Saturday's event (below, left). I was paired up with Dawn Rogal, who is - among other things - a plush artist with mean hand-stitching skills. We quickly found common ground with Alabama Chanin and decided to pay homage with a skirt covered in applique. Click over to Kirkland Arts Center's web page for ticket information. The garment worn by Katie Joy (below, right) was designed by my model, Carlynne, who is a designer/model/inspiring woman! 

 

Adrienne Antonson's State by Nube Green

However brief the actual runway show (I think it was under 10 minutes), last Friday I enjoyed a glimpse into the creative world of State by Nube Green, designed by Adrienne Antonson.

The whole event was home grown in a really great way. The event was produced by Nube Green, the hip and conscious recycled art and gift store, and took place on the stage of Century Ballroom, the swingingest place in Seattle to dance and dine, both housed in the historic Oddfellows buidling. The models were pulled from other local businesses including Molly Moon's ice cream scoppers, Oddfellows Cafe cocktail servers and Nube Green's shopgirls. Makes you feel like you live in a small town.

highlights from the annual Met Costume Gala

The annual Harper's Bazaar Met Costume Gala is basically the Oscars of the fashion world. It's a celebration of getting dressed up which typically coincides with an art opening at the Costume Institute. This year: Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion. What I wouldn't give to a) go to the Met Ball, just once and b) view this collection!

But at least I can enjoy the red carpet images from the event, right? There are typically a lot of princesses, ballerinas, Jessica Rabbits and such. There's a handful of 22-year old trainwrecks and cray-cray designers begging for attention. But my favorite looks are always those that embrace the word costume, because why wouldn't you? Check out the images from Just Jared, my new go-to source for red carpet moments.

Carey Mulligan in Prada. I love how this is super glamorous, but still looks like a reptile. A very shiny reptile.

Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen. Despite the volume of fabric layers, the bodice is a little revealing. Amazing contrast.

Cate Blanchett, also in Alexander McQueen. I swear I didn't look at the designer names until after I picked my favorites, but it's not surprising that there were two McQueens on my list. This over the top feathered gown is like a grown up Black Swan. Love. 

odd love : nube green fashion event

So excited.

Friday night I'll be at the Grand Ballroom witnessing the launch of Nube Green's State spring/summer collection. They're calling it an "oddly inspired" runway show. "Layered with tees and totes from our Oddfellos Building friends, modeled by your favorite Molly' Moon's ice cream scoopers, Oddfellows Cafe cocktailers and Nube Green shop girls." This thing is going to be so hip that the hipsters will have to leave halfway through the show due to the throngs of admirers from the main stream. Get your ridiculously cheap ticket here. 

If you aren't familiar with Nube Green, check out their website and then add it to your must-visit list. Talk about the motherlode of recycled goods. But don't be fooled - you won't find the everyday craft items here, everything in the store is a work of art. Some of the most talented eco designers are sold at Nube Green. I've been coveting this reclaimed wood bed since they opened.

Handcrafting + recycled materials = LOVE. Odd love... See you at the show!

Haute Cuisine meets Haute Fashion

What a wonderful pairing of food and fashion! Tom Douglas is the best of the Pacific Northwest, and his Palace Ballroom is one of my favorite venues. I've also been waiting for just such an event from House of Fashion since I met Marta Kappl nearly two years ago. Her Designer's Incubator provides a fantastic opportunity for young and emerging fashion designers to hone their craft right in the heart of Seattle and among peers, gaining skills and experience while sheltered under Marta's mentorship.

If you haven't been to House of Fashion at the corner of 1st and Virginia, you should add it to your list of must-see boutiques. The designers work and sell out of the space, and it's just around the corner from Baby & Co., so you can make an afternoon of it.

Luly Yang Couture 10th Anniversary Show

I'm more than thrilled to be joining the True Colors Events team today to assist with the coordination of Luly Yang's 10th Anniversary show: A Monarch's Tale... The Journey of a Decade. It's hard to believe she's only been designing gowns for a decade, but then again, a decade is a huge milestone. I promise to tweet insider info and pictures throughout the night, so follow me on Twitter if you can't make it to the event.

Laura Cassidy is a local fashion icon, Style Editor of Seattle Metropolitan Magazine who blogs at WearWhatWhen, as well as Editor of Seattle Met Bride & Groom. She takes fashion risks and embraces that in others. I've never seen her look like she didn't belong on the cover of a magazine. You may remember my post about her Doposcuola class at Cafe Lago. glam.spoon: recycle queen on King5 news

In case you missed it, I enjoyed 3 minutes of fame last night on King5 TV. Mimi Jung and her camera man followed me around the Lynnwood Goodwill a couple weeks ago, while I shopped for recycled textiles and offered thrift store tips. They even filmed me in my studio sewing up some ruffles.
