One of my early New Year's resolutions for 2012 is to make time for volunteer work. I've participated in a few isolated volunteer events over the years, but it's never turned into a regular habit. I realized in November when another year was coming to a close, that I need to make a commitment. There are hundreds of local, deserving charitable institutions in the Seattle area, but the one that made the most sense for me was the YWCA. I've been inspired by their Inspire Luncheons, participated in fundraising events for Dress for Success Seattle, and generally feel connected to a focus on women and girls. It's a perfect fit!
I signed up for an informational conference call where I expressed my interest and described my skills, followed by a phone interview, and two weeks later I was logging on to the YWCA computer as a volunteer! For the past month now I've been working a few hours a week in the development office helping out with their fundraising efforts. I'm so glad to have made it happen and I'm excited to promote their latest fundraising event!
This Thursday, December 8th is the first annual Home Sweet Homes Auction which will be held at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah.
Join us for an evening of sweet inspiration showcasing imaginative gingerbread houses created by local chefs. This festive event features delectable foods, fine wines and silent and live auctions hosted by John Curley. Home Sweet Homes presents an opportunity for you to strengthen and support the YWCA's Eastside housing and human service programs.
In addition to helping with the planning effort, I've donated a cocktail dress to the auction. This dress is near and dear to my heart, as it is the first design under the "t.spoon couture" label. For one reason or another, however, it hasn't found its owner. It's looking for a home this Thursday!

If you're free that night you should register now. And, if you've never experienced a John Curly auction event, you're in for a real treat! He is thoroughly entertaining and so motivating that he'll have you reaching for your paddle, swept up in the excitement.
