Rompers might be the only real cross-over garment in a woman's wardrobe. Doesn't really matter how old you are, you can wear a romper with the right styling. The one that caught my eye recently was from Dear Creatures.
While scouring the internet for images of cool & hot new rompers I came across a blog post on Pretty Lil Things about how current they were... in 2009. I guess the classic silhouettes never go out of style! And lucky for me, the 70's can kick the 80's a$$ because bohemia is here to stay.
In 2008 The Glamourous Life profiled the romper as inspired by Nicole Ritchie, featuring Opening Ceremony's bustier onesie. Not sure I'll ever feel comfortable wearing something called a "onesie" but this little romper is super cute. In fact, Opening Ceremony has an entire Jumpers/Bodysuits category including such descriptive words as "Romper," "Jumpsuit," "Jumper," "Bodysuit," "Combishort," "Pantsuit," "All in One," "Overalls," "Playsuit," and of course, the "Onesie." Quite the vocabulary!
Of course nothing brings all the boys to the yard like a hot young pop star wearing a romper. Just look at Katy Perry in Mandate of Heaven's vintage inspired number, as reported on by Here's Looking Like You Kid.
Trolling the web I even stumbled across a web site that combines two of my favorite past times: Gossip Girl and fashion (aptly titled Gossip Girl Fashion). It's all starting to make sense... those upper crust boarding school vixens are the ones who brought girly back, wearing short skirts and strapless tops walking up and down 5th Avenue. A very cursory skimming of images on the web reveals that although Blake Lively is not the only one wearing rompers in public, she has a ton of them and wears them every chance she gets!
I've been collecting them for a couple of years and can't wait to start incorporating rompers into my rotation. Happy Summer!
