It's a little reminiscent of the movie Nell, but I just love the whole vibe of State's world. There are now about a dozen designers now contributing to the State Catalog...
Open Sky is a great platform for small business owners, and BOHO republic just applied for a spot! The rules state that we need 20 followers before we can officially start selling. If you are so inclined, we'd love it if you could follow us! It's really easy to join, just login with Facebook.
I'm so excited for the opportunity to participate in this year's Surviving with Style event. I was thrilled to be invited to design for the show this year, and I couldn't be happier with my model, Rose. When I met her at my studio last week, I thought there was some kind of a mistake. She looks like she could be a model. Young, pretty, tall and blond. Not what you'd expect from someone who'd been fighting Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for 2 years.
Making a dress for Rose will be an absolute pleasure. The style we decided on has significance to her future... but you'll have to buy a ticket to see it!
If you haven't been to Lisa Vian Hunter's Madison Avenue Boutique, you're missing out on the closest thing to shopping Audrey Hepburn's closet. Last Saturday's runway show and sale was all in the name of celebrating the style icon's birthday, and a great time was had by all.

Readers of this blog will be familiar with Shabby Apple's cute dresses... the entire site is filled with retro-inspired vintage clothing for women with discerning taste. The dress in the woodland photo above is called Knave of Hearts. It's a great example of the vintage style you'll find at Shabby Apple. The kind of dress that can look modern or retro depending on how you choose to style it.
This orange dress called Decadence is straight out of the 1940's: One of the most flattering era's in women's clothing design.
This black + white geometric print dress is named Paradigm Shift and has a great 60's vibe. But take away the hat and the gloves and that's a day-to-evening dress for the modern woman.
So much vintage goodness... And they've asked me to give away a $50 gift card to shop their lovely site!
Please note: Only open to US Residents...

Set your DVR's folks! You won't want to miss a second of the Style Network's "XOX Betsey Johnson", a docu-series starring Betsey Johnson and her daughter LuLu.
For years, Betsey Johnson has led the fashion community with her youthful, eclectic styles. This spring, the American icon will give Style viewers unprecedented access to her life with daughter Lulu on the docu-series XOX, Betsey Johnson.
I've been a fan of Betsey's since the early 80's and everything she does has drama, so I'm thrilled that someone is finally filming her life!
On Saturday, May 11th, Izzie Lewis will be at Clementine Shoes teaching attendees the very techniques she uses to make fabric flowers. Considering that this is happening the day before Mother’s Day, this would be a great way to create a lasting bouquet for Mom.
DESC opened its doors in 1979 as an emergency shelter, a place for vulnerable adults living with behavioral health disorders and chronic homelessness to come in out of the cold for the night.
Today their mission is not merely to offer shelter, but to end the homelessness of our community's most vulnerable people, through an integrated array of clinical services and supportive housing that allows men and women to reclaim their lives and reach their highest potential.
Now through May 8th visit DESC's Bag Lady Online Auction to snag a designer handbag for yourself and contribute to a great cause.
This was not my favorite season of Project Runway (which is no secret). I, along with most of the cast of the show, was very disappointed to learn of the "teams" angle. From the get-go it seemed that the stronger designers would inevitably be dragged down by the weaker ones because of the team aspect, and I could hardly watch the first 6 episodes.
But in the end, creativity prevailed. I didn't love everything Michelle made on the show, but I loved a lot of it. But even if you didn't like her designs, you probably knew she had talent. She's creative and focused and passionate about everything she does. I'll have what she's having!
Her final collection was bold, cohesive and really fresh. I can't wait to buy some of it for myself. I'm also going to make this the year I get to Portland for Fashionxt - even as a spectator, if not a designer someday.
